What I love about the Glastonbury Festival

What I love about the Glastonbury Festival

It’s over for another year. One of the greatest music festivals in the world, and it takes place right on my doorstep.

I love it. There is something for everyone. A chance for us all to let our hair down, express our personalities and have a great party.

I was shooting for the Sustainable Food Trust so got to chat to some great people in the Green Futures and Greenpeace areas of the site. Mike Feingold, in his Permaculture plot, was a fascinating and gentle character. Deri Reed at The Ethical Chef was one of many in this patch of the festival enjoying a life true to their values.

There was time to take my 10 year old son to the Craft Area. He carved a wooden sword, fashioned a bow out of hazel and then designed cup-cake candles. Meanwhile I enjoyed chatting to the stall-holders about their motivations and loves in life.

A bit of music – Imagine Dragons were the highlight for me; Ellie Goulding for the boys. Her performance of Burn on The Other Stage came just as the golden ball of a sun was setting. It made a magical scene.

Talking of magical, we were fortunate to be in the right place at the right time for my boys to see Dynamo Magician Impossible in the Kidz Field. No grown-ups allowed, so many resorted to lying prostrate on the grass to peek under the marquee flaps!

My boys are now the proud owners of autographed playing cards as well as photos of them with the man himself – I think they will be talking about this for quite some time to come!

Tony Cordy, who runs the Kidz Field, has a wonderful approach. He believes that Glastonbury is not just for the adults. The children are the future. why shouldn’t they have stars to watch too?

And of course there was a bit of mud, well a lot of mud actually, but then Glastonbury wouldn’t be Glastonbury without it.
